Zugzwang!

Zugzwang – I heard this term today used in a way that my brain had never considered.

A chess term, zugzwang is a situation in which the obligation to make a move in one’s turn is a serious, often decisive, disadvantage.

As I listened to the speaker use the term, my mind began to wonder. In today’s world, many are facing their own zugzwang. We do not have a great move on our chess board right now. Our strategies are not working as we had planned; the only “right move” will compromise something that we value or alter our strategy.

As you think about your life or organization during this pandemic remember no one wants to be where we are today, but we are strong and if we work together – we will get through it. The move we make might not be the move we want but look towards the future. The light will follow the dark. We have strength and courage; we will one day look back on this time and recognize that the move we made had impact.

No doubt things will look different in the future.
